From June 11–14, 2026, the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Chinese Urological Association of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CUDA) was held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The meeting was hosted by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) and the Chinese Urological Association of the CMDA (CUDA), and jointly organized by The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, and The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University, with additional support from Henan Cancer Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine, and The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University.As one of the conference’s Executive Chairs, Professor Xuepei Zhang of The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University has long been committed to advancing clinical practice, academic development, and regional collaboration in urology. During CUDA 2026, Oncology Frontier – UroStream spoke with Professor Zhang about the progress of urology in Central China, the significance of hosting this national meeting in Zhengzhou, and the role of academic platforms in promoting high-quality specialty development.
Oncology Frontier – UroStream: As one of the Executive Chairs of CUDA 2026, how would you evaluate the development and overall progress of urology in Central China over recent years?
Professor Xuepei Zhang:
First, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Chinese Urological Association, especially President Nianzeng Xing, Academician Xu Zhang, the vice presidents, and all members of the association, for their tremendous support in bringing the 2026 CUDA Annual Meeting to Zhengzhou.
The decision to host this national conference in Henan reflects the association’s recognition of the remarkable progress that urology in our province has achieved over recent years. It also demonstrates acknowledgment of the continuous improvements we have made in specialty development, clinical capability, and scientific research.
More broadly, it represents recognition of the overall strength of urology throughout Henan Province.
Oncology Frontier – UroStream: As one of the principal organizing institutions, how do you believe this conference has enhanced the academic influence of The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University and the broader Henan medical community?
Professor Xuepei Zhang:
This year’s conference was truly a large-scale academic event, attracting more than 8,000 participants from across China.
The scientific program included 30 parallel sessions covering a wide range of cutting-edge topics, including minimally invasive surgery, medical engineering integration, novel drug development, and remote robotic surgery.
The conference was jointly organized by The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Henan Provincial People’s Hospital, and The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University, among other institutions, creating a highly collaborative regional model for hosting a national scientific meeting.
Events of this caliber not only enhance Henan’s academic profile within China’s urologic community but also promote the continued development of the region’s healthcare system, academic infrastructure, and collaborative networks.
Oncology Frontier – UroStream: Under the conference theme of “Collaboration and Innovation,” what distinguished this year’s meeting in terms of its organization and academic program?
Professor Xuepei Zhang:
The meeting was held at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, an outstanding venue located near one of the city’s best-known landmarks, the Zhongyuan Tower, commonly referred to as the “Corn Cob Tower.”
The conference featured more than 30 parallel scientific sessions, covering virtually every subspecialty within urology.
One of the meeting’s highlights was the organization of more than 50 live surgical demonstrations, performed by nationally recognized experts. Each procedure included real-time operative commentary followed by detailed case review and discussion, providing participants with valuable educational opportunities.
These live surgeries were made possible through the close collaboration of multiple institutions, including The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Henan Provincial People’s Hospital, Henan Cancer Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, and The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University.
By combining live surgical education with comprehensive academic exchange, we hope to further enhance the technical capabilities of urologists throughout Henan Province while promoting continued regional development and improving the overall quality of clinical care.
