The 41st Annual Congress of the European Association of Urology (EAU26) was recently held at the ExCeL International Convention Centre in London, UK. As one of the largest and most influential academic gatherings in global urology, the meeting brought together leading experts and scholars from over 100 countries and regions to discuss the latest advances and innovations in clinical practice.
The Department of Urology at The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, led by Prof. Changbao Xu and Prof. Xiaofu Wang, presented their latest research at the congress, delivering a strong and distinctive voice from China in the field of urolithiasis.

Innovative Approach to Upper Urinary Tract Stones

At the session titled “Urolithiasis: Laser Technology, Pressure and Temperature,” Dr. Xinyu Shi presented the team’s study:

“Preliminary Application of Intelligent Temperature- and Pressure-Controlled Flexible Ureteroscope Combined with Negative Pressure Suction Sheath in Holmium Laser Lithotripsy for Upper Urinary Tract Calculi.”

The presentation addressed a key clinical focus—minimally invasive treatment of upper urinary tract stones—and systematically introduced the application of:

  • Flexible ureteroscopy
  • Negative pressure suction sheath
  • Holmium laser lithotripsy enhanced by intelligent temperature and pressure control

The team shared both their clinical experience and innovative technical insights, demonstrating strong expertise and a forward-looking approach in minimally invasive management of urinary stone disease.

Following the presentation, the study sparked lively discussion and high praise from experts attending from the UK, France, Singapore, Hong Kong (China), and other regions.

Recognition on a Premier Global Platform

The EAU Annual Congress is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative academic platforms in urology, attracting over 15,000 professionals each year. Research selected for presentation represents the cutting edge of the field

The successful inclusion of this study highlights:

  • The team’s clinical excellence
  • Their research capabilities in urolithiasis
  • The growing international influence of the department

It also reflects the institution’s advancement toward the front ranks of global urological practice and research

A Milestone Achievement and Institutional Strength

Presenting at the EAU congress marks another significant milestone for the department and is a testament to the hospital’s long-standing strategy of:

  • Strengthening the institution through education and research
  • Cultivating high-level talent

Over the years, the Department of Urology has maintained a strong commitment to the integration of clinical care, teaching, and research, with particular strengths in:

  • Urinary stone disease
  • Urological oncology

Under the leadership of Prof. Changbao Xu, the team has continuously advanced minimally invasive surgical innovation and actively participated in high-level international collaborations and multicenter clinical studies.

This achievement at EAU26 reflects comprehensive progress in:

Clinical practice

Scientific research

Training of young physicians

Looking Ahead

Building on this international exposure, the team aims to:

  • Further strengthen disciplinary development
  • Expand its academic influence globally
  • Continue contributing to advances in urological science

Ultimately, their goal remains clear: to provide patients with more precise, higher-quality, and more efficient medical care
