On December 23, 2024, the Hematology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association held its committee transition meeting in Beijing, where the 12th Committee, consisting of 87 members, was elected. Following individual presentations and a secret ballot by all committee members, Professor Zhang Xiaohui, Deputy Director and Director of the Office of the National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases, Deputy Director of the Peking University Institute of Hematology, and Professor of Hematology at Peking University People's Hospital, was elected Vice Chair-Elect of the Hematology Branch. The National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases, Peking University Institute of Hematology, and the Department of Hematology at Peking University People’s Hospital constitute one of China’s largest and most technically advanced comprehensive hematology centers, integrating medical care, education, and research.
The Peking University Institute of Hematology is home to the National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases and has been recognized as an innovation team by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as an innovative research group supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
The institute specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic diseases and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It established the “Beijing Protocol” for haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, with more than 10,000 transplantation cases performed to date. The technology has been disseminated to more than 150 centers across China and more than 10 overseas centers, including centers in Italy and Israel. Its core technologies have received two National Science and Technology Progress Awards, Second Prize.
Since 2016, the institute has ranked No. 1 in hematology among Chinese hospitals for 12 consecutive years in the Fudan China Hospital and Specialty Reputation Rankings. In 2024, it again ranked first in the national hematology specialty rankings.
Three professors from the National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases, Peking University Institute of Hematology, and Peking University People’s Hospital have served as Chairpersons of the Hematology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association:
- 2000: Academician Lu Daopei was elected Chairperson of the 6th Hematology Branch.
- 2013: Academician Huang Xiaojun was elected Chairperson of the 9th Hematology Branch.

Major Achievements
Professor Zhang has served as principal investigator for 44 projects, including National Science and Technology Major Projects, National Key Research and Development Programs, and key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
He has published 144 SCI-indexed papers as first or corresponding author and has contributed to or influenced 42 international guidelines and consensus statements related to transplantation and coagulation/bleeding disorders.
He has led or participated in the development of 43 domestic and international guidelines and consensus statements.
Over the past five years, he has been invited to deliver 45 oral presentations at major international hematology conferences and has applied for or been granted 13 national invention patents.
He has received the “National Distinguished Physician – Outstanding Achievement” honor and was named a 2023 People’s Good Doctor of the Year.
As first recipient, he has received the First Prize of the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award and the Second Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award.
As a co-recipient, he has received two National Science and Technology Progress Awards, Second Prize.
