At EAU25, Dr. Mehmet Cetin from Marmara University School of Medicine (Istanbul) presented a prospective randomized controlled study evaluating the impact of video-based informed consent on the anxiety levels of parents whose children undergo orchiopexy.
In the study, 74 children were randomized into two groups one received standard preoperative verbal consent, while the other group also watched a short educational video. Results showed that anxiety and depression scores were significantly lower in the video group, particularly among parents with higher education and in cases of bilateral surgery.
This finding highlights the value of integrating multimedia tools into routine preoperative communication, not just for improving understanding, but also for supporting parental mental well-being.
Congratulations to Dr. Cetin and the team for their contribution to advancing patient-centered communication in pediatric urology.
