At #EAU25, Dr. Yannic Volz (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) introduced early insights from the ongoing PRACTICE trial (NCT06806059), a randomized, single-blinded study assessing the impact of structured physical activity before radical cystectomy (RC) in bladder cancer patients.
RC is one of the most complex surgeries in urology, often leading to high perioperative morbidity. This study explores whether preoperative step targets (8,000–10,000 steps/day) using wearable activity trackers can reduce complications and improve recovery, physical fitness, quality of life, and even recurrence-free survival.
With 10 patients enrolled so far, this innovative study could lay the groundwork for integrating structured prehabilitation into ERAS protocols in uro-oncology.
