Editor's Note: Recently, the 20th Shanghai International Forum for Infection Control (SIFIC) and the 8th Oriental Forum on Complex Infectious Diseases (OFCID), along with the Annual Academic Meeting of the Global Chinese Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Society, were successfully held in Shanghai. Infectious Diseases Frontier had the privilege of interviewing several administrators of the SIFIC forum at the event. They shared the development journey of SIFIC and their personal growth stories from different perspectives. Through these real experiences, we gained insight into how SIFIC, with an open attitude and innovative spirit, is leading the development of infection control in China, while also witnessing how each participant has achieved personal growth and value enhancement in this process.

To me, the key phrase that defines SIFIC is “leading with wisdom.” SIFIC brings together experts and scholars from various fields such as infection, infection control, and microbiology, creating an open, diverse, and inclusive platform for communication. Through forums, social media platforms like public accounts and video channels, as well as offline academic meetings and self-published books, SIFIC offers a comprehensive, multi-level opportunity for its over 200,000 members to exchange ideas and learn.
Under the leadership of Dr. Bijie Hu and Dr. Xiaodong Gao, SIFIC stays at the forefront of international infection control, advocating evidence-based, scientific, and precise infection control practices. This has driven innovation and development in China’s “four-in-one” model that integrates infection, infection control, microbiology, and antimicrobial drugs.
As a member of SIFIC, I have been fortunate to witness this platform’s continuous growth and have grown alongside it. In my 15 years with SIFIC, I have progressed from an ordinary member to an administrator, moving from a basic understanding of infection control to contributing to the compilation of books. My perspective, professional knowledge, and mindset have all undergone a profound transformation. I am confident that under Dr. Hu’s guidance, SIFIC will continue to contribute wisdom and strength to the development of China’s infection control efforts with professionalism and openness.

The first key word in my mind is “openness,” which has always been the driving force behind SIFIC’s development. We firmly believe that the power of knowledge lies in sharing, and in the face of challenges, we need to gather wisdom from around the globe. Therefore, SIFIC has always kept its doors open, welcoming experts, healthcare professionals, and industry leaders from all over the world to participate in our activities while actively embracing the changes brought by the internet era.
“Innovation” is the second key word that comes to mind. In the wave of the internet, SIFIC has gained new vitality. We recognize that innovation is the key driver of progress in infection control. Thus, we continuously explore and experiment with new ways of communication, learning models, and technology applications, such as online community forums, webinars, public WeChat accounts, and video channels. These innovative initiatives have not only enriched SIFIC’s content and formats but also greatly enhanced participants’ interactive experiences and learning efficiency. At the same time, we encourage everyone to actively propose new ideas and methods, collectively advancing the concepts, technologies, and services in infection control.
As a member of SIFIC, I feel deeply honored. I believe that through openness and innovation, SIFIC will continue to lead the development of the infection control field and make even greater contributions to global health.
