Editor's Note: The 20th Shanghai International Forum for Infection Control (SIFIC), in conjunction with the 8th Oriental Forum on Challenging Infectious Diseases (OFCID) and the Academic Corference of Global Chinese Association of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (SIFIC 2024 "National Infection Control and Challenging Infectious Diseases" Combined Conference), was grandly inaugurated in Shanghai. "Xiaoshi," a reporter from Infection Medical Line, interviewed some of the participants at the SIFIC event, sharing the growth journey and bright future of SIFIC.

Over the past two decades, SIFIC has grown in academic influence, becoming almost synonymous with “infection control frontier.” The SIFIC Forum is a necessary growth path for every “infection control professional.” The first task for any “infection control newcomer” is to join SIFIC’s learning community, seeking guidance and gaining experience from teachers across the country. SIFIC has also become a spiritual sanctuary for “infection control veterans,” where they continue to learn and grow in an environment that feels as refreshing as sunlight streaming through a forest.

Looking ahead, China’s infection control efforts still face significant challenges, particularly in strengthening infection control in grassroots hospitals. Moreover, there is a need to adopt a broader perspective, incorporating new infection control concepts and technologies, such as medical big data and artificial intelligence (AI). Additionally, it is crucial to enhance the capacity building of infection control professionals.

This is my tenth year attending the SIFIC Conference, and each time I participate, it feels like coming home. The conference planning and organization are excellent, featuring top-tier infection control experts from both domestic and international circles. The academic presentations cover cutting-edge topics, consistently leaving a deep impression on me. The SIFIC Conference provides us with an opportunity to accumulate knowledge and absorb new insights, covering everything from simple infection case analyses to environmental hygiene monitoring and the study and interpretation of infection control policies. It enables us to achieve “unity of knowledge and action” in both theory and practice.

Having completed twenty years, SIFIC is in its prime. I hope that SIFIC will continue to embody youthful vigor, lifting the future of China’s infection control field. I wish SIFIC continued success, becoming a beacon and model in the infection control domain, and contributing even more to our country’s infection control efforts.
