Dr. Shahnaz Sultan led the multidisciplinary panel behind the AGA Living Clinical Practice Guideline on Computer-Aided Detection–Assisted Colonoscopy, published in April 2025 in Gastroenterology.
This guideline addresses one of the most debated topics in modern GI practice: whether computer-aided detection (CADe) systems should be routinely used during colonoscopy. Despite promising short-term gains in polyp detection, the panel under Dr. Sultan’s leadership concluded that the current evidence remains too limited for a clear recommendation, emphasizing the need for more robust data on long-term patient outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and implementation.

Her work reflects a balanced, evidence-based approach in an area where innovation and caution must go hand in hand.
Congratulations to Dr. Sultan and the entire panel for guiding the field with clarity and rigor.
