A multi-center study across 13 centers in five countries evaluated the long-term outcomes of CARTO/PARTO for gastric variceal (GV) bleeding in 311 patients over 10 years.
The results show excellent survival rates, with 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-, and 10-year OS at 98%, 80%, 68%, 52%, and 33%, respectively, and a median OS of 99 months. Prophylactic CARTO/PARTO was associated with better survival, while high pre-MELD scores (>27), concurrent HCC, esophageal varices, and elevated bilirubin/ammonia were linked to poorer outcomes.
GV bleeding recurrence remained low at 5.4% over 10 years, with clinical and technical success rates of 95.3% and 96.5%, respectively. The major complication rate was 4.5%.

These findings establish CARTO and PARTO as highly effective, long-term treatments for gastric varices, emphasizing the need for careful patient selection.
