Editor's Note:The 2024 Chinese Congress of Holistic Integrative Oncology (CCHIO) recently convened in Xi'an, bringing together global experts and scholars to discuss the latest advancements in cancer treatment and foster international cooperation. Among the distinguished participants was Prof. Naoufal Louati, President of the Moroccan Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who delivered a keynote presentation titled "Global Progress on Holistic Cancer Care." Following his address, Oncology Frontier interviewed Prof. Louati to discuss his experience at the conference, his insights into the role of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in cancer treatment, and the promising prospects for China-Morocco collaboration in cancer research and prevention.
Oncology Frontier:Could you share your thoughts on attending this CCHIO conference?
Prof. Naoufal Louati: First of all, I am very happy to attend this Congress and to be in Xi’an. It’s my first time here in Xi’an, but it’s my second time participating in this great Congress. Last year, I had the opportunity to attend CCHIO in Tianjin, and it left a lasting impression on me as a very successful event. Participating again this year fills me with joy.
The CCHIO Congress does more than just facilitate the exchange of ideas among people from different countries—it serves as a bridge between nations, fostering collaboration and understanding. This aspect of the event is particularly inspiring.
Oncology Frontier:What is your perspective on the role of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in cancer treatment? What motivated you to engage in the practice and research of using TCM for cancer treatment?
Prof. Naoufal Louati:In my home country of Morocco, I have personally experienced several TCM therapies, including acupuncture and qigong. These treatments sparked my deep interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine, especially in the context of cancer care.
To deepen my understanding, I conducted extensive research online and discovered a wealth of projects and studies within the TCM field. Many of these efforts focus on curing cancer or aiding in the recovery process for cancer patients. This remarkable potential of TCM is what motivated me to explore this area further through both practice and research.
Oncology Frontier:What do you think are the prospects for cooperation between China and Morocco in cancer prevention and control, as well as in anti-cancer research and other related fields?
Prof. Naoufal Louati:I am very optimistic about the future of collaboration between China and Morocco in the cancer field. China is a country with vast experience and advanced expertise in cancer treatment. Morocco, on the other hand, has numerous institutions and organizations dedicated to cancer prevention and care.
If we can establish a strong bridge for anti-cancer cooperation between our two nations, I am confident that we will achieve significant progress. Such a partnership holds immense potential for advancing cancer research and treatment in both countries.
