At the 51st Annual Meeting of EBMT, Dr. Rawad Rihani from the King Hussein Cancer Center (Jordan) delivered an important presentation on the determinants and outcomes of graft failure (GF) in pediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) for non-malignant disorders.
Her comprehensive analysis identified key demographic, transplant-related, and clinical predictors of GF. Notably, the study emphasized the multifactorial nature of rejection outcomes, urging clinicians to account for a broader range of variables including donor-recipient matching, conditioning regimens, and careful stem cell source selection when planning pediatric transplants.
These findings reinforce the critical need for individualized treatment planning in pediatric HCT and highlight the potential to mitigate rejection risk and improve post-transplant survival rates in children undergoing HCT for non-malignant conditions.
A big thank you to Dr. Rihani for addressing such a high-impact topic in pediatric transplant care.
